Town Hall Meeting on LGBTQ Older Adults

Don't miss this historical chance to make your voice heard and help to shape important legislation. Join us at the Center Thursday, September 23 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM for a Town Hall Meeting on LGBTQ Older Adults. Michael J. Burgess, Director of the NYS Office for the Aging, will be joining us to listen to our concerns.

This is the first Town Hall meeting in New York to focus on LGBTQ issues and is part of the nationwide drive to include the LGBTQ community in the Reauthorization of the Older Americans Act. Mr. Burgess and a panel of area officials will listen to comments from our community regarding the Federal Older Americans Act, which will be reauthorized in 2011.

Join us and speak up for the rights of LGBT older adults in the Hudson Valley and across the nation. Join us, too, on Thursday, September 16, from 5:30 - 6:30 pm for an advocacy prep session which will offer constituents the opportunity to prepare brief, clear and powerful comments for the September 23 Town Hall.

Swinging Time at the Barn Dance

Everyone who made it to the August 21 Barn Dance seemed to have a great time. There was super music, plenty to eat and drink, a fantastic, bucolic setting (thanks Donn and Mary Ann Avallone) and even a rope swing in the barn.

Sarah on the rope swing

Thank you to everyone who worked on the event and to all those who came and helped make it a highlight of the summer.
