FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 19, 2007
This meeting is free and open to the public and will begin promptly at 3PM. Please arrive before 2:45 PM so the meeting may begin on time.
Joining Center leadership in this meeting are several groups meeting regularly at the Center, including CenterSAGE (Service and Advocacy for GLBT Elders) and OLOC (Old Lesbians Organizing for Change), groups that advocate for LGBTQ seniors.
"Many seniors face daily challenges in securing the social services and support due them as taxpayers," explains Center board president Ginny Apuzzo. "For LGBTQ seniors, the difficulties are compounded because they remain marginalized consumers of government services. This meeting is an opportunity to introduce Commissioner Rodriguez to the needs, concerns, and experiences of aging LGBTQ citizens. The meeting will be the first in an ongoing dialogue between members of the Center and key policy makers who oversee local social service agencies."
The Hudson Valley LGBTQ Community Center was founded in 2005 to support and nurture the LGBTQ community in the Hudson Valley. Since that time, the Center has attracted more than 1,100 dues-paying members and is creating programs to empower the LGBTQ community to achieve their maximum potential.
